As British higher education evolves, student accommodation concepts also need to advance. The revolutionary Gaze Mi-Pod living-module wins top marks from students, clients and investors.
Now that the wheels of self-financed higher education are beginning to turn in Britain, students will no longer tolerate the kind of living conditions that have been forced on them in the past. From shambolic halls of residence to grotty flats, student accommodation in Britain has traditionally been regarded as a rite-de-passage: something to be endured, rather than actively contributing to the success of an education.
Gaze Holdings has developed a most extraordinary concept in student accommodation: providing students with what they actually need.
Taking cues from sources as diverse as modular McDonalds prefab restaurants assembled offsite, to the component panels of smart cars - and of course the Apple iPod which packs everything a young person could ever need into the coolest of packages - Gaze has developed the Mi-Pod.
The Mi-Pod is a modular living space which is largely assembled off-site. Choose a bathroom, a particular kitchen sink, a colour scheme or a room layout, with environmental friendliness built in via energy-saving solutions such as natural hi-tech wiring.
The Mi-Pod concept enables the purchaser to dynamically configure the living space to the student's specific needs. That purchaser could be a parent, keen to ensure their child has comfortable and easy access to all the living facilities they need, plus the highest security possible for their prodigy. Or it could be an investor, earning a healthy return from a student happy to pay rent for a warm, stylish, secure and eminently practical place to stay during their studies. Naturally the concept also sells to nurses and other key workers, who are normally single but allows them economical access to the property ladder.
Because of the offsite fabrication in the Mi-Pod production centre, followed by rapid assembly onsite, Mi-Pod can be constructed for a fraction of the cost of a normal home - particularly if the Mi-Pods are clustered together in "hives", where specific configurations can be slotted into "cells". Much like halls of residence now, but a lot more sophisticated, highly secure, much more comfortable and offering far more scope for getting some study done.
